Yutnori guide

What is this game?

Playfulo Yutnori is the Korean board game of throwing four sticks (do, gae, geol, yut, mo, back-do) to move pieces. Play against AI, on one device, or with an invite link — up to 4 players, no sign-up.

The host chooses player count (2–4) and pieces per player (2–4). Throws play a tumbling-stick animation and sound.

Stacking, capturing, and corner shortcuts are included. Yut and mo grant an extra throw; capturing does too.

How to play

On your turn, throw the sticks and move a piece (or stack). First player to get every piece home wins.

  • Do 1, gae 2, geol 3, yut 4, mo 5, back-do −1. Yut and mo throw again.
  • Landing on a corner takes the diagonal shortcut next; passing a corner stays on the outer path.
  • Friendly pieces on the same cell stack and move together. Landing on an opponent sends them back to start.
  • A capture grants another throw. Back-do cannot enter a piece that is still at start.

Controls

  • Throw the yut sticks, then choose a piece to move by the rolled Do, Gae, Geol, Yut, Mo, or back-do distance.
  • Choose a route at a junction. Landing on your own piece stacks them so they travel together.
  • Capturing an opponent or rolling Yut/Mo grants another throw. Finish every piece first to win.

Strategy tips

  • Stack one or two pieces for a fast shortcut instead of spreading every piece immediately.
  • A stack is fast but all stacked pieces return together when captured, so split near an opponent's range.
  • When capture and finish are both possible, compare the extra throw, the next route, and the opponent's pursuit distance.

Difficulty differences

Easy chooses among legal pieces more simply. Normal compares captures and shortcuts. Hard also weighs stacking risk, extra throws, and the order in which pieces should finish.

Common beginner mistakes

  • Only looking ahead gets your pieces stacked and captured.
  • Sometimes finishing one safe piece beats advancing every piece.
  • Greed after yut/mo streaks can land you on capture squares.
